Connecting DVR to monitor. Please help!

Hello,

I am having trouble connecting a DVR to a computer monitor and wondering if anyone can help.

It's old equipment i'm putting in a spare room. I am connecting a Strong SRT 5425 set-top box to Benq FP202 monitor. (HDMI output of the box to DVI monitor input with HDMI-DVI cable)

The monitor works fine connected to my laptop with the HDMI-DVI cable (so the cable works). The set-top box works fine connected to HDMI-HDMI on another TV (so HDMI out works). But the monitor and box don't work together. The monitor says "out of range". I have tried changing the box settings (576p, 720p). What am I doing wrong? And what might be the best solution?

Many thanks,

David

  1. Anybody?
  2. Your monitor may not be HDCP compliant. This is a copyguard scheme build into HDMI.
  3. Thanks, but isn't that supposed to still work albeit at a non-HD resolution?

Saw somewhere that the HDMI from the set top box may be outputting a 50hrtz signal, and your monitor may be set to receive 60hrtz from the HDMI port.

I have a similar issue. Will see if there is settings that can be altered on the monitor when I get home.
