Hi all,

I got a used zd7000. I tried installing XPHome OEM after getting what
I thought were all the appropriate drivers from HPs' website. In device
manager there are two ?'s.
Under "other devices" comes up
"Network Controller" and
"PCI FLASH Memory".

The onboard NIC driver loaded fine, realtec, so I was wondering if
the network controller might be onboard wireless? and where might
I find the wireless driver for XP? Hor do I tell if the laptop has
onboard wireless?

The other driver is for the "PCI FLASH Memory"? no idea about that.

The couple of restore cd's I have for this machine don't seem to help.

any ideas?,
charles.........

That laptop comes with built-in wireless 802.11g and a 5-in-1 memory card
reader. Chances are good that the drivers for these are on your restore
cd. Look in the cds with Explorer for drivers (one of the cds may even be
labeled as such) and point to the appropriate folder when you tell Device
Manager to install drivers for these items.

If you're unable to locate drivers there or at HP's site, which seems very
unlikely, it can't hurt to hit Windows Update and see if that picks up the
hardware and offers drivers for it.

I have the same model - it was an "in-store demo".

I spent the better part of a week cleaning it out and updating it with new
drivers, firewalls etc.

I'm a pretty advanced user (ex LAN admin) and normally prefer "full manual"
mode rather than relying on the "auto update" programs installed on many new
PC's.
There were a few conflicts I couldn't track down so as a last resort, I
tried the HP Software Update application.
Wow. It actually found something I'd missed (or didn't have access to),
updated the driver and fixed the conflict!

Several years ago, I swore I'd never buy an HP product again after a number
of very bad experiences with their products, support and company policies.

I've done a complete about-face and I feel HP has too.

BTW: I found the support section of the HP website VERY useful as well. It's
VAST, so don't give up until you find what you need. I'd wager it's all
there.

Good luck!
Chris
