I'm after a less-irritating alert sound.

I had a specific one - called "Car" or "Car Horn" or similar, which was
a simple "buh-beep" but I lost it when my Palm crashed (argh) and can't
work out where I got it from. Does this ring any bells with anyone?

In a vain attempt to find anything similar, I've downloaded a bunch of
freeware system sound replacements, but they're all tunes, which are
*more* annoying than the built-in ones. Who wants a badly rendered
Flintstones theme as an alert sound?! Can anyone recommend a system
sound replacement set that consists of a variety of beeps and blips and
ticks and clicks? I don't want tunes, I want sounds!

Hopefully there's *something* out there.

Thanks,

-zoara-

There is a freeware program called Wavelet that you can put on your
Palm, then install .wav files smaller than 45K on an SD card. Wavelet
will convert them to system sounds. You can then turn off the System
beeps in the preferences (which will also play along with your .wav
file unless you turn them off) and use only the .wav files. And it
can be any .wav file as long as it's smaller than 45K - car horn,
speech, music, etc.

I have used it on my Tungsten T and now my Zire 72 and it works great.
My alarm sound is the first few bars of the theme to "Law & Order"
that repeat three times! You can find it here:

Well, no, it doesn't. It converts WAV files to Wavelet files, and then
plays those in addition to the system sounds (which can, as you point
out, be turned off).

It only lets you use one sound file, so every single alert (meeting,
task, note etc) all end up with the same alert. You can't tell by
listening alone what sort of alert this is. I want a whole bunch of
alert sounds - beeps and blips and boops, but *not* badly rendered audio
files - that I can pick and choose from depending what typoe of alert it
is.

That's odd, because it doesn't here; Tungsten E. It triggers on several
events (not just alarm events), such as dismissing the 'missed alerts'
dialog. It's a good stab at what it does though - it just doesn't suit
me.

I can't imagine anything worse! Remember, I said "less-irritating alert
sound"! ;) ;) You don't have The Muppet Show as the ringtone on your
mobile phone, do you? ;)

Thanks. I appreciate you pointing it out to me, but it doesn't really do
what I was after. Thanks anyway.
