Read disk error occurred

Today i tried to start up my laptop (Windows Vista), but it said a disk read error occured, press ctrl+alt+delete to reboot.
Now, i don't know much about computers, but already took a reboot-disk from my old laptop, and copied all to my external harddisk, because my laptop has no disk-drives (so no cd or floppy).
But it seems to be missing the OS. Now, anybody got any clues what the next step is that i should do? where should i download what etc?

Kind regards

  1. It is a Packard Bell notebook with Windows Vista.
  2. What kind of 'reboot disk' was this? And how did you copy it to your computer that has no floppy or CD drive?
  3. Can you boot from a USB drive? If so you could make a bootable windows installation disk on a memory stick and install from there.
As you have no technical computer knowledge it may be better for you to take it to a computer shop and get them to do it for you, it shouldn’t be very expensive, unless you want to do it yourself to gain the experience.
