Try deleting the printer from your " printers and faxes" , go to Canon's
website, download and install the latest drivers for that particular
printer.
Be sure and follow directions on the proper install order, ie if it is a usb
printer, it should prompt you at what point during the driver install to
plug the printer into your usb port.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the advice. I un-installing and re-installed the printer. Then
updated the drivers from the Canon web site. Printed 1 doc -did not work.
Printer still froze. I swap the printer to an old HP Deskjet 500 -printed 1
doc. WORKED FINE! Still have to do more testing on printing and running
more apps at the same time to see if the new printer behaves the same as the
Canon printer. Only other thing I can think of is the PC has bad memory, RAM
or over heats.
