My new Compaq Evo n1020v is doing some strange things when connecting to the Internet. Sometimes it is as loud as a normal modem but most of the time it connects completely silently. I just connected to the Internet in a quiet room and listened closely but it did not make a sound at all. I just find it weird that sometimes it makes a noise and sometimes it doesn't.
Are laptops meant to be silent when connecting?

If you go in the settings for the modem, (under bunch of menues) you'd see a checkbox that said mute modem speaker or something like that.
