any advice on how to set up an xp system so that only one person can install software and the other users can use the system but not install apps??

what about just giving the users non-admin/operator rights, and making sure the Program Files folder is only writable by admins.

sounds do-able .. any tips on actually doing it I rarely use the xp machine and am not familiar with the steps the help files on it were less than helpful

Yeah, just have two accounts. Administrator and Joe-friggin-schmoe.

Admin is root, and Scmoe-boy just has user privileges. Let's him look around at the files, and save what he wants in his desktop/documents, but can't install or write to the system directories.
