....Ex_bubblehea mentioned something about mismatched RAM. I'm actually unfamiliar with this phenomena. I know back in 1995 you needed to do some voodoo with matching ram modules, but anymore, memory is pretty flexible. Would you mind explaining how that restriction works? I'm curious.
We see this quite frequently in my shops. Mismatched sticks (different manufacturers, different densities, different timings, etc.) will quite often cause Windows (BIOS usually sees all the RAM) to revert to a max of 4GB. Sometimes simply swapping the sticks around will cure it, but most often it requires locating matching components. It's not a 'restriction' per se.
