Good RC thanks for asking, my new job has definitely knocked me out of my comfort zone, [IE; home at computer gaming central], and sent me to some places I probably wouldn't have ever gone on my own, like Omaha Nebraska, haven't discovered yet why anyone would want to live there but a lot of people do.
Washington DC, has been the biggest wakeup call for this Southern bred and born, it was nasty cold up there, homeless everywhere living on the streets, people were basically unfriendly and had a fearful attitude about themselves, I can pretty much talk to anyone, but they all acted like I wanted something from them just to be cordial, I'm not used to that kind of attitude, down south we just speak to each other and its no big deal.
Kinda makes me wonder if New York and Chicago aren't the same way, but as my good friend Art [ArthurH] told me, "Ry use this opportunity as a sightseeing adventure", and thats just what I'm going to do!
The new laptop has been invaluable, being able to IM my wife has made the lonely nights more bearable, and allowed me also to keep in touch here at THGF, but not like I used to.
I don't think I'm ever going to get to my next usertitle level but when I get close enough the spammin will begin!
When I get to come home for the weekend like this weekend, I love to fire up my server and play Serious Sam Second Encounter vs 1.07 Online with unlimited ammo, you ought to join in sometime its easy to find [Rys_Server] and my gaming name is Nemesis, I usually fire it up Sat & Sun night at about 9:00PM EST, you and anyone else here that want to are welcome to join in! Usually don't play the entire game just a couple of hours or so but we've been having a blast.
Well enough babbling RC! Hope all is well with you! Take care my friend! Ry

I know how gaming & home takes a hit while your on the road... When I was in Mexico, it was like that for the both of us as well.... It was like a honeymoon every time I flew back in though...
I love DC for the museums & things that are there... I don't like it for the very reasons that you said... I've been there a few times now..
Good that the lap top is doing the trick for you.. I had email & voice mail through GM while I was down there. You could give your wife a guest box & she could use the toll free number to leave me messages... I called home once a night & that would cost them 40 to 50 bucks average...
I'll have to see about doing SS... Right now I'm tearing things down at Command Central... Retiring this rig & building a monster for myself this week... Parts should be here Monday.. So I'm getting leaner all the time as I back things up & clean things out....
Good talking to you Man!!

Uhm.. o well, this topic is as good to ask this question as anything else.
I'm looking for a fair priced mail client that allows me to share mail that comes from a POP3 server (more than one actually), over different computers, without having to run my own mail server. Basically I'd like this client to be configurable that it stores the downloaded mail on a network drive somewhere, where all clients on diffent computers on the network can find it. Effectively, when I've read a mail on one of my computers, I would like this mail to be accessible on another computer, preferable showing that i've already read it.
Am I making things unnecessarily difficult and should I just run a local mail server, or is there something out there doing the job for a fair, possibly low price?

Hey RC, I'm moving over to an ATi this time. I currently have a geForce 3 Ti200. Come to think of it, it HAS served me well over 3 years now, being able to stand DOOM III (albeit at lowest resolution and detail level) and HL2. I hadn't built a high end rig back then which had the XP1800 as the best with the Ti500, instead I had opted for what my (and my bro's..... and dad's
) limited budget allowed (and that included a trade-in offer which was not even allowed at the PC store but was done as exception!) and gone for the raved mainstream line card, the Ti200 (for its ability to provide playable DX8 gaming) with an XP1600+ CPU.
So I never really had the chance to get some serious powerhouse system. Now I will, and trust me PF, just for the video card, you'll be swearing at me more than the time you swore over the watercooler failing...
Oh and BTW, since nForce 4 is the new hotness out right now, I thought I should send out my recommendation to yall who may be building something soon: without a doubt, hands down, the Gigabyte K8NXP-9 is the best most-feature filled mobo you'll find for the money yet. I only bought it and not installed it, but you just drool at the box itself. Look at this visual orgasm:
<A HREF="http://www.scamtron.com/THGC/Temp/picture 006.jpg" target="_new">http://www.scamtron.com/THGC/Temp/picture 006.jpg</A>
<A HREF="http://www.scamtron.com/THGC/Temp/picture 007.jpg" target="_new">http://www.scamtron.com/THGC/Temp/picture 007.jpg</A>
<A HREF="http://www.scamtron.com/THGC/Temp/picture 008.jpg" target="_new">http://www.scamtron.com/THGC/Temp/picture 008.jpg</A>
<A HREF="http://www.scamtron.com/THGC/Temp/picture 009.jpg" target="_new">It's flashing me, dirty dirty!</A>
To detail some of the features (trust me, it's more than you'd ever expect):
-DPS daughtercard which gives the system a 6-phase power circuit to ensure stability for future CPUs (better power supply to them)
-PCIe 16x graphics slot
-2 PCIe 1x slots
-3 PCI slots
-Whopping 10 USB 2.0 ports support
-2 Firewire 800Mb ports plus an extra one that can be added, I believe
-802.11g wireless PCI LAN card
-2 Gigabyte Ethernet ports
-nVidia's Hardware Firewall and some of its own goodies
-NIS 2005 included (I think it's a full version)
-RAID
-8 freakin' SATA ports, 4 using the new SATA II 3Gbps technology
-2 legacy IDE ports
-Dual-BIOS
-8 channel integrated audio (7.1)
If you ask me, the price of about 180$ is well justified. Heck the box itself is amazingly well designed, with two boxes full of the features. I can't wait to put it, all reviews have been very positive about it.
Anyways, back to the intial topic, I'm definitely going ATi for the performance this time. The 6800GT served the best for near high-end for a long time now, however the new X800XL will give it a serious run for its money, costing less (supposed to be) and performing as good. And this time ATi will deliver the cards, there is no doubt about it. I've even seen the X850XT PE in person at the local PC shop, in a shiny Sapphire box.
I really hope to find good prices for the March Break, so I could build the rig then. I got all parts except for the CPU and vid card. Still undecided on the former though. For the latter, I'd like to see if they won't get an H.I.S version of the vid card instead of Sapphire.

Dunno about stopping using Norton yet. If I keep getting Symantec freebies each month, I'll have years worth of free legal subscriptions!!!
Heck I just gave one NAV 2005 unopened copy to a cousin. I'm getting NIS 2005 (hopefully a full version) included the Gigabyte mobo package, I got NSW 2005 Premier with NAV 2005 included in there too, plus one other NAV 2005 copy I have had installed since a while now. That makes it 4 dang NAV 2005s, enough for the whole family!
That said, I installed Avast on the laptop, to see how it is. It's a 750MHZ P3 with 128MB RAM. Performance is ok to use it, but it's damn slow to scan, if you ask me. Much slower than NAV 2001. It doesn't even finish from what I've seen. It seems to hang on one file. And the EICAR test virus file wasn't even picked up until I manually scanned the file.
Dunno yet how far I'll go before wondering how people found it to be so good. I know it's free, which is damn awesome, and it's got a nice and very easy to use interface (note: GUI), but if not even an anti-virus test file was picked up while run, that's not quite good. Perhaps because I didn't activate the product first?
Anyways I will keep the proggie on dad's laptop, it wouldn't hurt to have extra protection besides an outdated 2001 NAV copy...

Yeah me too (except for OCing, I tried it a few times, nothing impressive, but also because I doubt I can really push the new card any more possibly than it is already) hence why I got the Ti200. Now ATi's winning.
Oh and yeah for the latter, I'm shootin' for longer too.

<A HREF="http://www.cameronwilliamson.com" target="_new">-={Psychotic Sociopath.}=-</A>
No not yet, like I said, waiting for vid card and CPU right time for price and availability. But it's not a full system upgrade either. HDD, PSU (well it was upgraded already since the old 300W Antec seemed close to giving up. Could've been just dust piling up, but I just said "ah screw it, might as well start buying the parts already, a new PSU would rock anyways. Ended up getting the sw00t Neopower 480W), sound card, CD-RW are staying. Monitor too.
I am upgrading CPU, mobo, RAM, video card, PSU, case and adding a DVD-RW in total.
I reiterate my question though, whaddya think of the box design?

Well, I'm not going PCIx board this time... I all ready have a gig. of Corsair XMS DDR 500 RAM.. I'm not going to chuck that out or sell it just yet... So I'm going AGP again... DDR2 is too dam expensive to switch to for me right now.. I'd rather have the fast vid card with DDR, than a mediocre card & DDR2.. That's just me though..
A64 3500 Winchester
MIS K8N Neo2 Platinum
1 gig Corsair XMS Extreme Low Latency
BFG 6800GT OC 256
Liteon 16 X Dual sided DVD Combo Burner..
No, I'm not going over to ATI this time.. Nvidia has too sweet of cards right now, & BFG is a hell of a card...
My parts will be getting here today, by the tracking. I have 4 machines to build before I leave on Sun. for the UP trip.. So RC is going to be power building this week..
I hope that I get my machine up.. I'll do that one last, more than likely.....
The board you have looks great as well..
Dazzle them with Brilliance, or Baffle them with BS!
<font color=red>{FMCD}</font color=red>
Now, I found the opposite with scanning files. It scanned my entire hard drive, 40GB of files and folders in just over 10 minutes. Norton would quite often hang my machine partway through a scan, and on the rare occasion it did deem to not fook up my machine. it took an age and everything else ran dog slow.
I'm quite pleased to be shot of Norton if I'm honest. It was a good call from Jake on this.
BTW, you lucky lucky git. Nice rig. Damn that's gonna rock. I'm jealous as f*ck I have to tell you.
<font color=blue>"I'm a man of few words, but most of the ones I said to the players began with F" - Steve Coppell</font color=blue>
You have to activate Avast... It's free. Gives you a 14 month license... Then you can get another one..
We've been going through Avast for the last couple of weeks here.. I know you've been busy & not around while it's been going on.. I don't know how to catch you up on all the things that were said & done about Avast..
A big thing it will do is a boot scan... I've never seen Norton do that... Scans before the drivers are loaded.. A lot of viruses disguise them selves as drivers & they're running when your in Windows, harder to grab then.. There's a lot of other reasons why I switched as well.... BTW, I have a Corp. Norton that stays updated forever as well, that I took out, to install Avast.....
Here's some of what I've changed recently...
Went to FireFox over both IE & Netscape.
Went to Bluebird for email, over IE & Netscape.
Installed MS Antispyware (beta) This one has saved me on a client of mine.
Getting my wireless router running for a hardware firewall.. (I'm still working on this with PF)
So in the last 2 weeks, I've changed a lot of what I've always ran & I'm loving it.. Now to change out my machine, for a new one!!!!

Yea!!!!!
It's not coming here... It's going to my client's place.. I've got to run over & get it after it's delivered....
You can bet, I'll be watching the tracking close... Spent almost $2500 in parts for this one.....
