How much faster would an i7-720 be compared to my p8600 core 2 duo.

Hello,
I have studio 15 with a p8600 processor and 4gig @1066mhz ram. would a alienware m15x i7-720 with 8gig @1333mhz really run that much faster? I don't know much about these newer systems. I would appreciate any info. I guess I don't see how these newer systems can be much faster since mine runs at 2.4gig and the i7 only runs at 1.6gig. There is also the the cache, mine is only 3mb and alienware is 6mb cache. Can someone explain some of this to me?

It's not all about clock speed. The i7 would surely be quicker than an a p8600. Check out this link to give you an idea benchmark wise:
