I don't know anything about integrated video's capabilities or PC
games and need a little advice.

I'm getting a Dimension 3000 with a 2.8 GHz Pentium 4, 512MB memory,
that has the Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 2 video chip on the
motherboard.

Do you think this integrated video chip will play the golf games like
Microsoft's Links and Tiger Woods PGA Tour or will I need to upgrade
to a real video card?

Thanks!

If it were me and I was going to play any game on it other than solitaire I
would just get a "real" video card. Even a really cheap one is better than
the integrated graphics in my opinion.

I probably should have been a little more descriptive in my first
post. I've already ordered the 3000 so upgrading to a 4600 is not
an option. And I got a sweet deal on the system so I'm happy. 10
years ago I got a Gateway 486 with 16Mb RAM and a 15" monitor for
3 times the price of this Dell that's coming with a 17" LCD!

This computer is for my elderly parents who will only be surfing
the web, doing e-mail and playing simple stuff like Hoyle Casino
and Hoyle Board Games.

I know my father would love to play Links or Tiger Woods PGA. I'm
just wondering if those will work OK on this system. I don't know
a thing about games, I think the last video game I played was Pong
back in '76. <g>

Before I go out and buy those games I want to see if anybody knows
if they'll work or not. Buying a PCI video card is always an option
if they don't. Unfortunately the Dimension 3000 doesn't have an AGP
slot.

Thanks!

It may be OK with a static graphic game like golf but not with more
action/graphic intensive games. Go with a 4600 or 4700 with AGP video card.

I think you'll be just fine. My Dimension 2400 is more powerful than I
expected.

I think you will be OK.

You could check on the system requirements of the Tiger Woods PGA Tour game
(Warning: Highly Addictive) as regards to video memory and compare to the
amount of memory your 3000 "borrows".

I don't if that Video card is good enough. I have a Dimension 4600
with with a 2.8 GHz Pentium 4, 512MB memory, that has a NVIDIA GeForce
FX 5200 card with 128MB with TV-Out and DVI, which is much better than
the Integrated video chip, which is disabled on my PC.
