When i first installed my now motherboard and cpu it was detected by windows as a 1.47ghz athlon processor, but it was supposed to be an athlonxp 2500 at 1.87ghz. now though it is being detected as an athlonxp 3200 at 2.2ghz. i havent overclocked or changed anything so what could be causing this weird problem. my 3dmark score also went up about 700 points from when i first installed so i dont think its just a mistake by windows. is there any reason why this maybe happening and if so do i run a risk of frying my cpu. ive checked the temps and even after running 3dmark about 10 times the temp only gets up to about 47C. thanks for any help.

the place that sold you your new CPU probably sold you a better one. If its a 2500 and runs at a 3200's speed and is stable. Thats my guess about what happened. That and the same thing happened to me. ;)

Supporting AMD with your breakable stuff.

Its possible your bios simply put the FSB to 133mhz when you first put it in, then changed it to 200mhz later thinking it was a 3200. Update your bios, restart and see what happens. If it changes it to 1.83ghz, then it was simply your bios gettin mixed up. But if its prime stable at current speed (prime95 checks cpu for stability) then dont bother doing anything and enjoy 3200 speeds for free...

1) Check what the mobo manufacturer says in his FAQ,
some mobo's will require a BIOS flash to properly report the Barton 2500. I have seen at least one saying this solves the errorones reporting of 3200's

2) Have you set your FSB / Memory properly (166Mhz for the Barton cores?)

3) What is the motherboard and bios revison?
