Some win XP in my company have the same problem: in windows explorer the
address bar refreshes its content every 2-3 seconds, preventing the user from
changing the content by typing directly (very very boring...). The same
thingh happens with the start menu in the "control panel" section; all fo the
other sections are not affected.
I already tried checked any possible presence of adware and malware, also
using procexplorer and looking for hidden tasks or drivers, no way.
I also tied to disable most of the active ervices one by one, and I found
that the the problem is related to one of those svchost.exe instances that
holds most of the windows services, like workstation, dhcp client, themes,
NLA, user switch, windows audio, auto update, and many others. Stopping that
instance of svchost solves problem, but it's not a soluction; the system is
unusable! I also tried to disable some single services held by that instance
of svchost, but it seems to depend upon the combination of SOME of them, not
just one. Before I get crazy with this... any idea?

Thread update:
After some further investigations, it seems to be definetely fault of the
"network connections" service. Disabling that service everything works fine.
The side effect is that I'm not able to display the network connections list.
It's less boring than the former problem, but I'll appreciate some
suggestions to fix the problem.
I believe that some unwanted piece of software is bound to that service, I'm
trying to identify it, but apparently there are no evidences of any abnormal
thing.
