I am planning to upgrade and after a little research this is what I have come up with:

INTEL PENTIUM 4 P4 2.4GHZ C 512K 800FSB
ABIT IS7 S478 865PE ATX DUAL DDR
CORSAIR VALUE SELECT DUAL CHANNEL 1024MB KIT PC3200 DDR CAS2.5 2X512MB

Would this configuration be easily OC'd?
Is there much benefeit to going with the 875 rather than 865?
any suggestions would be helpful

That's the setup I have except ram. HYperX PC3500 2 X 512 OC to 3.0.

That's the setup I have, gonna OC as soon as I reset (don't wanna interrupt downloads)
a 2.6GZ might give better results when OCed, you can also get faster RAM if you can afford it. The equasion to the max OC speed you can get if you stay at 1:1 and not OC memory is:
(mem speed /2) * CPU multiplier.
the memory speed is DDRxxx when xxx is the number in MHZ. the multiplier is your stock CPU speed /200, so for 2.4GHZ it's 12, and for 2.6 - 13

thanks for the info.
I think I will go with 2X256 PC3500 HyperX intead so it would be better for overclocking.

And also upgrade to the 2.6Ghz CPU
It would still be slightly cheaper overall and I think the performance would be better.

Yeah, but you won't be able to OC any higher than 200 or maybe 210 than stock speed, if you want to stay at 1:1 and if you don't, than you can just get the PC3200

MY 2.4C Fsb 250 Dram ratio 5:4 with HyperX PC3500. Using 1:1 differant story.

kinda confusing.
Some people on here have their 2.4C running at 3.0 so I should be able to run the 2.6C at 3.0 no problem right?

Reply to daPhats

Yup. You should get 3.2 with 2.6C you want more you have to change the stock Hsf.
