Unsupported signal please check the device output sony bravia

I have an old Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop. I also have a Sony Bravia KDL-32BX310 digital TV. I have connected the TV and the computer via a RGB cable. I tried to use the TV screen as a dual monitor. When the computer starts up, it shows up on the TV screen. But once it get to the screen where I have to punch in the password to log in the computer, the TV screen goes blank with the message on the right bottom corner saying, "Unsupported signal. Please check the device output signal". What does that mean? How can I solve this problem. Thanks.

  1. That message means the resolution the laptop is attempting to display on the HDTV is not a resolution your HDTV recognizes. You'll need to try different resolution settings to find one that works with your Sony Bravia.
