Firewall for Service Pack 2

Last response: in Windows XP

Hi,
After many attempts to upgrade to Service Pack 2 (I finally ordered the free
CD from Microsoft) I cannot enable the firewall. Everything is "shaded" out
in the Windows Firewall in Control Panel. The message says "For Your
Security, some settings are controlled by Group Policy." This is a sole home
computer on high-speed cable. The help and Support literature about this
topic was not very clear about how to enable the firewall.
Thank You

Just because you're not paranoid, that doesn't mean that "they" are not
after you.

More about : firewall service pack

Do you have another software firewall such as Zonealarm or Kerio
installed on your system? Does your cable modem have a firewall or NAT
capability, either of which you have enabled?

If your answer to both questions is no, I would suspect that your system
is infected with malware. Scan your system for viruses, trojans, and
other malware and thoroughly clean it before upgrading to SP2.

You need to be Administrator to configure the firewall; you can't do
it as a plain limited user even though it shows up in Control Panel.

If the above problem happens while you're logged in on an
administrator account, then you've got a malware infection. Download
a couple of good malware removers on a known safe computer and burn
'em to CD, then boot your own computer in Safe mode and run the
malware removers.

Which is worse, to BE paranoid or to THINK you are?

Very funny, Keith, but can you shed some light on my problem, or do you
think you just did?
