It's been a couple years since I built my current PC. I like to game in the Winter.
With HL2 and Homeworld2 nearing release - the ole P3 800 ain't just gonna get it anymore.
Is P4 near it's end? Sounds as if Prescott is several months off - which is too long for me, plus the cost of the early processors will be pathetically high.
I'd like some comments on what processor would be good as the basis for a system that could cost $2,500 - but I'd like to keep it closer to $2,000.
Does the video card still end up being the bottle neck in many systems? I know you need a balance of main processor speed and peripheral capabilities. No sense in a hot processor if the video card sucks. Typically I've purchased THE card of the moment when building a machine and a less expensive processor with some headroom left for OC or swapping out.
Thoughts?
Lead me not into temptation. I can get there myself.
