I've established Local Area Connection at 100 mb/s and I set all the
permitions in simple file sharing but neither computer shows up in My
Networks. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for all the suggestions.

If you don't have a router/hub/switch, you will have to use a special crossover cable. You might also be able to find a crossover adapter in order to use the cable you have already bought, but those are not commonly available retail.

my local computer store will make them for $0.50 per foot.
I have used a reg cat5 with a female/female adapter for extension and a
short crossover.
works fine.
