So judging by toms and various others reviews of the P4 3.2ghz and 9800pro combo, in 3dmark 2001 and 2003 both the A64's out perform the P4, but by 5%? Not that impressive at all considering 3dmark2001 is very cpu and fsb dependant.
My 2500 barton @ 2400mhz now seems like a good investment as it was only intended to put me on until these A64 chips come down in price. But I get roughly the same performance in games, maybe 5-15% at most difference so who knows when I will be upgrading again...
yeah I agree with eden, not very impressive, I'm really hoping presscot will be something, not necessaraly so amd will fail, just so there's something decent to buy after all this hype and exitment over the past month
Only good thing is that when the other versions of the A64 come out, the 3200 will drop in price a bit and have a more mature and overclockable core just like the bartons. If hitting 2.4ghz becomes the norm with these chips, just like it is with bartons hitting 2.2-2.4ghz then it may be worth upgrading later. But for the next 3-6 months I think things won't change much at all..
And yeah the latencies on the FX suck. It shows up in 3dmark but other apps like the pure bandwidth. I think the 3200 will be a real bargain later on as its cheaper than the 3.2c now and faster it seems (or as fast).
