Make sure all your speaker cables are connected correctly and you have no loose wires that accidentally touch another output. This will cause shorting and failures similar to yours. If you have the little spring type speaker wire connectors many times a single strand will be outside the connector and can cause shorts.
Make sure your unit is not getting overheated.
If you are using different speakers than what came with the system, you need to make sure the resistance is compatible with your receiver. Incorrect impedance can cause overheating.
Are you sure it is random? Not linked to a certain audio format, temperature, loud volume, etc?
If it happens still most likely it is a bad amplifier stage. Many times the "pop" is the internal thermal breaker tripping, whether from thermal overload, a short, etc... You could have a bad speaker?
