Hello,

I have created a .reg file to remove some entries from the registry of
certain machines however when i merge the registries the entries i am trying
to remove are still there? I dont understand why as when i search the
registry before hand it shows me the location and the details of the
key/value i wish to remove but when i re-create it and put a hyphen it is
still there after the merge.

Please can someone help me out....

Thanks

I have put the script below (It should move some keys and some values)

there needs to be a slash between the server (msnews.microsoft.com) and the group (microsoft.public.etc). Like every other internet address.

Registry scripts stop as soon as they don't recognise something. There is no error reporting. Perhaps post the file.

I have to apologise i must be being really dumb because i dont understand
what either of you are saying. The link doesnt work it tries to open a
mailbox which i dont seem to have access to. When i click subscribe nothing
happens. I am struggling.

I tried reposting in the Windows 2000 Registry area however when i search it
appears in the same window as this post so i am unsure to if i posted in the
correct place.

Sorry about this

Hi Daniel

Hope you're still here -- if you want to have a chat about this, please
feel free to email me. I would have emailed this to you, but you don't
give a working addy. You have quite a few duplicate lines in the .reg
file (that wouldn't stop it working though). There are also a few
mistakes.

This entry is one:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"Shell"=-"Explorer.exe C:\Windows\Nail.exe"

To remove the "Shell" value you just need to type "Shell"=- ("Shell"
equals minus, no spaces) -- you shouldn't specify any data string after
it. (Wouldn't it be better though to have "Shell"="Explorer.exe" ?)

This might stop the file from running as it isn't in the correct format.
You have the same error in:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices]
"Microsoft Map PC"=-"mappc.exe"

and the following 2 entries.

Not sure what you're trying to do here:
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache
"C:\\WINDOWS\\Nail.exe"=-"Nail Application"

If you want to remove the value, you should: remove the hyphen from the
start of the key name; add a closing square bracket at the end of the
key name; remove the string after equals minus in the second line.
Same problem with the next 4 entries.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"Shell"="C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe"
The second line here should have double backslashes in the Explorer
path. But you don't need this entry in the file if you alter the key as
I suggested above.

Hope this helps

So i post it to you.. Daniel.Goss@Northgate-IS.com (between 8 and 6)
After 6 please use goss34@hotmail.com (home email I can access now)
