Hope your not getting tired of me yet :-) I was going to get the NX7000, but they are out of stock. I came across the Compaq x1000 at Costco for $1599 which about $400 cheaper than the NX7000. Should I wait for the NX7000 or go for the x1000?? It has a 1.4Ghz vs. 1.6, 32 MB vs. 64 MB ATI, and lower screen resolution 1280 x 800 vs. 1680 x 1050. I am not a huge gamer, but play here and there. I mainly use the notebook for VMware, where I run mutiple OS's for learning and testing. Is the 32 MB really that much less? and how about the .2MHz difference? As far as screen, the screen looked great at the store. Thanks for the input

If they both have the same graphics array (just one is 32MB lower in memory), they should perform almost identically in most cases. The times when the extra memory comes into play (excuse the pun) is in games with large maps (for instance). To be realistic, you most likely won't be able to tell the difference.
the 200MHz difference will be noticeable, if you do number crunching/video-editing / divX encoding etc. work, but otherwise it should be no different. I don't think there is much difference between the NX7000 and the x1000. Why don't you configure one on the Compaq/HP site - one that fits all your needs?
I think the x1000 is a great choice - (if) when you get it, be sure to post us some benchmarks - and give us some feedback too.
Thanks,

Who's General Failure and why's he reading my disk?
I got the T40 instead and even though it doesn't have all the bells and wistles of the NX7000, I still love it!! I was blown away by the build quality! and this thing is slim and light!! with over 4 hours of battery life with the stock battery! I almost got the high performance one, but 4 hours seem pretty good to me
Thats not too shabby at all! But that's IBM for you, built like rocks.
I can get 4.5-5hrs off of my D800 with one battery, I'm sure if you push your T40 you can most likely better that. I'm curious, Does it have a modular bay? the possibility of a second battery? or do you just use a bigger battery if you need extra battery life?
What does it get in 3DMark?

It has a higher capacity battery that gives you over 6 hours I believe, which would be longer than I'd ever need. I have never used 3DMark, so I don't know.
