I want to setup a game server to host games like Battlefield 1942 and Quake.
In the recent Maximum PC magazine, they had an article about setting up a game server, and the minimum specs.

They say for 32 player BF 1942, recommends 1.5GHZ Processor and 1 GIG Ram.

My question is, would a 2.4 GHZ CELERON work, or should it be a true P4?

I am thinking about buying:
Intel Celeron (Pentium 4 based) 2.4GHz 128K 400MHz FSB mPGA 478 Pin Processor Retail Box Version

ASUS P4S533-X Motherboard for Intel P4 478 SDR and DDR Retail
http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=P4S533-X&langs=01

512 DDR.

Thoughts.
I want to least expensive, and Intel based (please, no Intel/AMD debates).
Thx.

DO NOT buy a Celeron.

May if your going to build a server for 32 people for gaming don't use Celeron. Use the P4 2.4c at least.

I dont Think thats going to happen. IIRC this is the guy that refuses to buy anything AMD, even if it is obviously going to give him better price/performance :frown:

Celeron == Bad, you get a better price/performance ratio with a P4 (actually, I'd also agree with the althon in this case since processing will be the bottlenec and you'd get the best price/performance for that there, since your friend says no, stick with a P4). Also, when they say 1GB mem, they mean 1GB of mem, I wouldn't get less than the reccomended, I'd probably even sacrafice a bit on the CPU if need-be

nVidia didn't make me an nVidia fanboy, ATi, and lack of other serious competition made me an nVidia fanboy.
