Hello all :)
I was just wondering how much of a difference does
Hyper-Threading really make?
For example say i get a 2.4 ghz P4 with Hyper-Threading
800 mhz is my processor going to run more like a 2.6 or higher with a fsb of 533 mhz?
Many thanks

If u have an HT enabled cpu, u will notice that in window task manager u have to cpu's runing, thats not mean that u have two cpu's. the fact is that HT enables to the processor to work on two threads in the same time, for example loading photoshop and autocad, it will load them as it is using two cpu's instead of one, that means that HT will give u more speed but not always. not all games programs...... are compatible with HT.
but if u purchase the HT 800mhz cpu it will run fuster not only of the HT but of the FSB at 200mhz quadpumped, so it gives 800MT, but u nees a compatible mbrd, and ddr400

It is reasonable to assume that a HT-enabled, 800Mhz-FSB P4 will perform roughly on par with a +400Mhz-clocked P4 without HT and only with a 533Mhz-FSB.

Therefore, a 2.4C will handily stand next to a 2.8Ghz, 533Mhz-FSB P4 in benchmarks... This general comparison works, but should be interpreted loosely.

Yes... that sucks... even a Ti4200 would much preferable...

What about a FX5200 or something?... Cheap and respectable...

why not build your own PC by selecting the parts at an online hardware store and have them assemble it for you, you'll find a lot of info on these boards.
