Forum CPU & Components : CPUs AMD2500+ v 2600+

Just chasing some opinions (or facts). I'm currently purchasing components for a new upgrade. I have a mobo with nForce2 chipset and 1GB RAM. Was going to put in a 2600+ but with the advent of Barton, was wondering how the 2500+ is supposed to compare for speed (since it has the extra cache). What do you all reckon?

Thanks in advance.

umm AMD ratings don't lie when your comparing their own chips. A 2600 will be faster on average than a 2500.

But... a 2500 can overclock easily ( you may need to change the cooler) to the settings of a 3200!

I would have to agree. buy the 2500+ and O/C it, and you'll get the best of both worlds...

Barton 2600's are now starting to show up with v. similar ocing abilities... so as long as its a Barton U should get 3200 with a rated cooling system...

Trust me I know what I'm doing... ooops, grab the cat...

Thanks for the replies guys. Much appreciated. Since I'm in Australia and I haven't seen any sign of the 2600 Barton, sounds like I should go for the 2500. Cheers.

They don't? I seem to remember the 2400+ being faster in most apps than the 2500+! It's also clocked higher. AMD decided that they could justify lowering the clock speed AND raising the raiting simply by adding more cache!

They also added FSB to the 2500 as well as cashe. Went from 133 to 166.

Dazzle them with Brilliance, or Baffle them with BS!
