I was thinking of buying a monster cpu like a Intel Xeon 3.06GHz 512K 533FSB Socket 604 CPU (Retail). I wonder if this cpu will fit in my pc. I never changed a cpu before so what do I need to know about this cpu to see if it fits?
What's the fastest way to know what socket my computer uses and if it's support 533mhz fsb? I'm in a wheelchair so it's hard for me to get into my case and I live alone so help is not arround.

ok no my mother board doesn't suuport 604 it supports 478. So lets say for example that I will get a Pentium 4 3.2GHz 512K 800FSB Socket 478 CPU (Retail)
Now I need to know if my motherboard supports 800 FSB right? I checked under the box and the cpu section in my booklet for my motherborad and it doesn't say. So tell me how I can find out. I'm not dumb
And the Xeon 3.06GHz retail is cheaper then the Pentium 4 3.2GHz. Which one is faster? Is it the xeon even though it's cheaper?
You can use sisoft sandra (a free download) that should list some of your motherboard specs. With the model number and bios version, you can determine what is the maximum speed cpu your board supports. You may also want to check the manufacturer's website for any bios upgrades that support newer cpus. You may also get some info in the post sequence, though you may have to disable the "fast boot" option in the bios, or hit the pause key when the info appears on the screen.
Thats correct.
The best you could do is get a P4 'A' 400fsb processor and possibly overclock it.
Its probably better getting a whole new 800fsb motherboard, new ram and a 800fsb cpu.
But that of course will cost you a pretty penny.

Will this one fit in my mother board: P4-Xeon 3.0ghz ( 512K cache: FCBGA, 400mhz ) 2WAY
It doesn't say what type of sockets it uses and it says FCBGA, not FSB. And it says 2 way. What does that mean? And do u guys know a good FAQ site for cpu's?
Uh... XEON chips are for Multi Processor systems only.
They dont fit in socket 423/478 motherboards at all.
Besides, they also cost alot more.
For your motherboard you want the fastest P4 A you can find...
I know they went up to at least 2.6 or 2.8Ghz.
