I bought a gatewat laptop for the pawn shop.. I cant get pass the use

If boots into windows and asks for a password reinstall windows if it's a bios password you may be screwed

And why didn't you try it before you bought it?

Somewhere inside the case, there's a CMOS battery. You may need to disassemble the case to reach it.

This can be a o/s password this can be removed by installing a new o/s on the hard drive. Or this can be a bios pass word if this is what it is only someone with training of working on motherboards can remove (not your local comp. store). If this is a hard drive password put in a new one and reinstal a new o/s (operating system)the same as the c.o.a. license on the bottom of your laptop. hope this helps.

prob. not stolen if yopu got it from a pawnshop and removing the cmos batt. willnot help this is done only on towers or home comps. not laptops
