Laptop hangs when receiving email

Hi, I have a laptop (DELL Vostro 1510) with Windows XP as its OS and MS Outlook 2007 installed. When I'm receiving/sending emails, my laptop freezes/hangs for about 2-3 minutes.
Do you know the exact problem? please help me, thanks!

It could be the speed of your internet connection or that there are too many emails in your Inbox and it takes time to process new messages or overall degraded performance of your laptop due to malware, a heavily fragmented hard drive, and just general digital clutter.
