How do I remove the static electricity from my printer?

When I plug the printer into the USB pf my HP laptop, the power shuts down right away... Help! Is this static electricity overload, or a short in the electrical of the computer?

To narrow down the cause:

Have you tried different USB lead ?

Check the USB socket pins on the laptop and printer are not damaged.

Try the printer with a different computer.

if they are damaged how can I know, and how can I correct that? good all,will try with different computer, but I use my laptop a lot.
