Help XP Service Pack have screwed my computer :(

i installed Windows XP Service Pack 1 coz i needed that java plugin, anyways it installed fine and asked for reboot i rebooted the computer it rebooted came to windows and took time to load up, after loading up one of my drives was gone, simply gone erased when i try to access the drive windows told me "drive not formated do you want to format it now" i unistalled service pack still no luck getting my data back

can someone please help me out there is so much data in there i will be totally and royally screwed if i dont get it back

and btw the only reason i installed that service pack for (microsoft java machine) was not even working

i hate microsoft :(  :(  :(

Have you tried sticking the drive in another machine as a slave to see if you could get the data off?

It's possible that simply the boot sector of the partition was erased. If that's the case, and if the partition was formatted as FAT32, then this is very easy to fix. Just follow the intructions of this article:

This has happened several times to me before.

If the partition was NTFS, then it's still possible to recover it using a similar method, but it's a bit more complicated. Unfortunately, Microsoft only offers a very vague idea of how to do this in this article:
