Prescott is the P4 with 1MB cache standard. The interesting news is that Intel is considering release of a 133MHz (533 bus) P4 on the Prescott core, at speeds as low as 2.8GHz. Now overclocking a 533 bus 2.8 to 4200MHz/800 bus would be the killer deal for overclockers, and could get by with standard PC3200 RAM!

There are more and more rumours appearing of a 1 MB northwood, not prescott. Prescott is likely being delayed into Q1, and as a stop gap, intel may just as well use their existing 1 MB L3 P4 Xeon core, repackage and sell as P4's. According to Xbit, those 1 MB P4s will be sold at the same price as current 512 Kb versions. Now there is a good reason to love competition :D Here is the link:

and here is the 1 MB Xeon:<A HREF="http://www.intel.com/products/server/processors/server/xeon/index.htm?iid=Homepage+STT_xeonproc_03ww41a&" target="_new"> intel 1MB P4 Xeon </A>

We don't need a different chipset. The first Prescotts will work with late model Socket 478 boards.

Newer chipsets will be released next year to introduce PCI-Express. A new socket will be introduced next year with more power connections for even faster Prescotts. Both will probably be released at the same time, but there's nothing preventing any company from using the new socket with older chipsets or vice versa.

I never said that. I said they are considering releasing a 533 bus version. That's for lower markets. Don't you remember that Intel often produces two bus speed versions for the same core speed CPU?

They will be releasing higher bus speed versions of the Prescott in the future. I think they're planning to switch to DDRII before that happens. Right now we have 3 bus speeds for the northwood, in the future we might have 3 bus speeds for the Prescott.
