Whats the best processor that can go in an Asus a7n8x deluxe motherboard? I currently have a athlon 2400+ in use. I'm trying to get a decent/good prossesor upgrade as well as ram but I dont want to have to go out and buy a totally new mothboard. So what is the most this board can handle? Im guessing 3000+ or 3200+?

You have one of the best (if not THE best) available Socket-A mobos that are currently out there. Of course it can "handle" the 3200+ !

Having a 2400+ you don't really have to upgrade. Just overclock the hell from it. With decent air cooling high FSB (210MHz or above) beyond 2.2GHz is not difficult to reach.

Me fail English? That's Unpossible!

I would but I'm not too uncomfortable (as well as unknowledgable :)to overclock my cpu. I'd rather just do some overtime at my job for a week and buy a better chip.

Then you should wait few months and buy an Athlon 64 and a new mobo.

Currently, overclocking is the best option for you

We still need to know if you have a REV 2.0 board? Chances are if the board is only 4 months old or newer it's a REV 2.0 board. Look between the pci slots on the board, It should say ASUS A7N8X then the REV edition (in tiny print).

If its a REV 2.0 it should have no problem itself hitting a 200 FSB fully supporting the Athlon XP3200 barton with a 200 FSB.

If its a REV 1.02 , 1.04, 1.06 it might only support a FSB of 180 - 190 but I here the latest bios might fix the limited FSB of the early A7n8x boards.
Still not sure try posting your question at
http://www.nforcershq.com in the ASUS section.

If I glanced at a spilt box of tooth picks on the floor, could I tell you how many are in the pile. Not a chance, But then again I don't have to buy my underware at Kmart.

Sorry I just saw your earlier post in the other thread. You have pc2100 If you upgade to a xp3200 you will need new ram (pc3200 min) to efectivly reach a 200 FSB. Nforce boards need to run memory in sync for good performance. I'd recomend 2 sticks of good pc3200 or 2 sticks of good pc3500, you need 2 sticks to enable dual channel get 2 x 256 memory chips min, for a total of 512 mb ram.

I'm with Spitfire here - you won't get much of a boost with a new chip, especially considering the price you'd have to pay for a 3000+ or 3200+. It wouldn't be worth the amount you'd have to pay.

Either wait longer and upgrade the whole shebang in ~6 months or so, or be brave, buy some PC3200 Ram & overclock your current chip to a higher FSB (& lower multiplier). You have a great deal of knowledge at your fingertips about overclocking.. Just ask us  ...
