I've this environment in my test-lab:
-N. 1 Windows server 2003 Domain Controller (with Active Directory)
- N. 3 Windows XP Pro SP2 client joined to domain
- N. 1 WSUS Server (installed and configured on the same DC machine)
Each client has installed:
-Automatic Update (the last version)
- Symantec client security 10.0
Each client receive the approved updates from WSUS server.
The question is:
I've tried to perform a rollback to a previous restore point (automatically
created by System Restore) on any client but, after restart, I get the
message: "... unable to restore, no changes have been made".
Then I've tried to perform the rollback in safe mode but the result was the
same...
At this point I've clear out System restore and create a manual restoration
point, then I've performed System Restore and it work fine!
At this point I've applied a new update to my client and then I've tried to
perform rollback from the automatically created restore point but the same
message appear: "... unable to restore, no changes have been made" then I've
tried to restore from the same manual created restore point (that works fine
previously) but, now, the rollback don't work and the same error message
appear: "... unable to restore, no changes have been made" !
Any idea on this problem?
Thanks in advance.

P.S. obviously I've checked that on my disc there was sufficient space
(about 5 Gigas...) and that System Restore service and Task scheduler was
working and started regularly.

Hi,

Here are some troubleshooting tips for System Restore in Windows XP.

Go to Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc and press enter.
Click on System in the left pane.
Click the gray title "Source" at the top of the source name column in the right pane to
sort by source name, look for "sr" and "srservice".
Double click on each of these events, then click on the button below the two arrows in the
upper right corner. This will copy the event information to the clipboard. Paste the
information for each of the two event here. This will help us in diagnosing the problem.
