ok .. my problem is, that im saving money to buy a 64 bit processor of some sort. Im into film editting and 3d animation, so i need something powerfull. but im allso a gamer and just bought a readeon 9800 pro 128, so the motherboard has to support AGP.

Now the question:
ive been looking at the opteron and athlon 64 FX, and ive found motherbaords from Asus that can support both CPU's (opteron and AThlon 64 FX). but what is the diffrence. some say that they are one and the same, AMD says otherwise.
i know that opteron contains alot of ( what you call it ) build in things, like Linaer algebra processing, ect. But i dont know if that's the case with the 64 fx.

And is it possible to get a MP motherboard that can support AGP?.

So could someone please help me, lineout fact by fact what the difference between athlon 64, athlon 64 FX and opteron is.

:)

You would want the Athlon 64 chips for that. The Opteron is for work server and they are only good for data swapping. The only reason that the opteron is 64bit is so one could tons more ram in the rig than a 32 bit version. Those 64bit ones coule do up to 16gigs of ram. Just go for the Athlon FX chip.

F-DISK-Format-Reinstal DO DA!! DO DA!!

The Athlon FX is identical to the Opteron 14x. The only difference is in available clockspeed, the fastest single cpu opteron is the 146 (2 GHz), while the FX is (only) available at 2.2 GHz. Everything else is exactly the same.
If you want dual cpu, you can't use the FX (nor the opteron 1xx), you need an opteron 24x for dual, and if you're really rich, a 84x for 4+ way systems.

As to your question regarding motherboards; if you want a dually, have a look at this board:
