the dell optiplex gx270 hd cable does not have a connector for a 2nd hd

can the cd/dvd cable be used temporarily to connect a 2nd hd to clone disk 1
to disk 2?

Yes, that should work fine. Jumper the drive cable select, and DO NOT boot
the system with the new drive in the slave position after the cloning is
done.
