P4EE launched, A64 3400+ listed and then some

Intel just officially launched the P4EE No products sighted yet anywhere though, but the price is real enough: $925 a pop if you buy most if intel's production of EE's for the entire year ;)

AMD's response can't be far away either; my local shop has a A64 3400+ (2.2 GHz) listed for availability within 2-6 days. Price is right between the A64 3200+ and the FX51 (I wonder if the 3400 will not often outperform the FX though).

On a side note, it looks like the next XBOX 2 is not going to run an intel or AMD CPU, but an IBM Power cpu !. Now, since we have heard MS' was going to support 5 or so 64 bit architectures, I think this means MS will actually build an OS for IBM's power architecture as well (remember NT for the PPC ?). This would give them a better shot at the highend 64 bit workstation and server market they want so desperately than Itanium and Opteron combined.

Finally, an interesting product launch of an opteron based super computer building block by octigabay . Opteron is really doing well here.

Yeah, almost too good to be true. A64 3400+ will gain 10% clockspeed over the 3200+, while a possible 3.4 GHz P4 would only gain 6% over a 3.2 GHz. Factor in slightly better clockscaling for the Athlon 64, and it looks like either AMD is becoming very conservative again, or is expecting more from Prescott than I am :)

According to Xbit AMD are about to introduce a 2.4Ghz A64FX - that should remove any debate about where the performance crown is right now.

Nod, on the present fx and ee it's fairly close in alot of cases (back and forth.) However, putting out a FX-2.4ghz would pretty much end any debate on the issue across the board.

Oh slvr_phoenix ... where are you?

"In 1,000 unit quantities, the Pentium 4 processor at 3.2 GHz sells for $925." (this is taken from Intel's press release). In case you don't remember, maybe you would like to check our little conversation we had here.

Also, this is especially dedicated to everyone saying that whatever The Inquirer says is bullshit. They reported this weeks ago and everyone said they were crazy for saying something like that. I am still looking for all the "bullshit" things you are all talking about. Until now though, the only thing I see is confirmation about whatever they are reporting.

Oh no Pitsi, NONE of us have *EVER* said that everything the inq says is BS... infact it seems to be about 5% is bs (sometimes less sometimes more), BUT that is plenty to make them a non-reputable news source. They list to many rumors as facts.

EDIT: It's a trade off for them really, they list things usually first, but in doing so they tend to pick up some rumors that sound reputable but aren't.

Scotty has several design changes... it is supposed to outperform Northwood by a healthy 15% or more margin, clock per clock. I wonder if that's true, though... we'll have to wait and see...

If the EE is 925.00 at 1000 units what is the price for just one. I mean that’s allot of CPU's. And who is going to buy 1000 CPUs. Business that sell CPU's and I have seen hell of mark ups on products. I do inventory for a living and see how much some places buy things for and let me tell you most of the time its half as much as they buy it for. If it’s that much for 1000 of them I am betting that for one it will be much much more. But I am not 100% sure because I don't know how much the normal mark up on a product is for the CPU area but from the look of it I would say it is going to be a fairly big mark up seeing as how the EE is top of the line and because of that more then likely people selling single's of the EE will likely want to also get more money out of it then say the 3.2c which is no longer top of the line.

Its all about profit people and I personally have very little hope in the EE seeing what most disrupters are getting the EE at I doubt that we the actual people who use the thing will be so blessed by the disrupters to have a very small mark up on such a presume product

(sorry about any spelling errors if there where any)

>CPUs

CPU prices are always quoted by 1000's by both intel and AMD. 1000 isnt that much for a OEM or a big distributor really, though in this case, it might be. I read somewhere (the INQ ?) that Dell is charging $1400 MORE for a P4EE system over an identical 3.2C. Not sure if that is correct, but if it is, it means they ask almost $2.000 for that chip. Maybe they only expect to sell 500 of them ? :)

That is what I was talking about. Only people that are getting the EE at that price is going to be the distributor and I understand that 1000 CPUs isn't that much normaly but for the EE I think it might be even for big time distributors so like I said before I am guessing that they are going to have a big mark up. Like you said Dell might be selling the EE's for 1400.00 that is a 475 doller mark up and I don't think that you are going to find a much better price even on price watch or newegg. But we will see Dell and other distributors like dell normaly have a bigger mark up then say newegg or price watch because alot of people that buy from there normaly know crap about computers, not all the time but I would say the migority or the people get from dell because they don't care what they get as long as it is fast, which to people who don't know much about computers means that if it cost a ton then it MUST be fast and worth the crappy pricetag that Dell and other places like it have on some of thier Computers. You know I have talked to people that just want to buy alienware just because it has really expencive computers and because they are really expencive they must be the best. Yeah Alienware normaly only sells the best but you are basicly spend a ton of money on a case. I think I compared prices before and found out you are paying like 300 or more for the case.
