greetings, i recently acquired an IBM Thinkpad 1400 (2629-492.) It is a 500 MHZ Pent III processor that I would like to upgrade. Can anyone inform me about max processor upgrades or a service providor that can do this for me (I would prefer to do this myself.)

Thank you kindly and have a good day

What chipset is the lappy using (check tech specs or use sisoft sandra to find out). You should definitly be able to upgrade to any non-tualatin 100mhz bus cpu, if you have a newer chipset such as the i815 you may even be able to use a 133mhz fsb cpu.

If it isn't a P6 then it isn't a procesor

I think you're out of luck. AFAIK you can't upgrade that cpu at all.
