Hello,
Do you have to buy a phone from Virgin Mobile to use their service? I use VG now but someone gave me an HTC evo3d, can I use that or do I have to buy only their phones?

More about : virgin mobile phone

Take it to Virgin and see if it's compatible and unlocked.

If it is locked, read this thread: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/58384-36-need-unlocki...

If it is unlocked, there shouldn't be a problem with using the phone on their network.

Phone companies don't make money off the phones, they make money off the service contracts. So the majority of carriers lock the phones to their network to make you either buy one elsewhere or continue to use their network. Every carrier also tries their best to make sure all UNLOCKED phones are compatible with their network in the hopes of new customers signing on with them.
