Im just wondering if i can use a p4 cooler on my Amd processor, im assumming that it works better because the P4s have more megahertz running through them than amds does anyone know if i can and whether it will work better than an amd processor, im looking to overclock an athlon xp 1600 and an athlon xp 2600 barton
Depends on what motherboard you have. Some AMD motherboards have the four mounting holes around the processor that P4 heatsinks usually use.
There's no real difference in heat output with Intel Vs AMD though, for the same performance level.
I could be wrong, but I think the XP chips below XP1700+ are palomino (or possibly thoroughbred 'A') cores, so you're XP1600+ won't be a particularly good Oc'er. the 2600 should go some though.

you want to overclock with a p4 cooler? why does it have to be a p4 cooler? you mean the stock cooler that comes with a p4? you can do a hell of a lot better than that.
