ok I'm looking at notebooks for school/play and I'm wondering what you guys would reccomend for my needs. I'm thinking about a lattitude D600 though the 32mb radeon 9000 leaves me wanting more. My desktop machine keeps aging and componants keep dying, I want a notebook that can replace it for a few months and last me through the next few years in school. I need it to be light so hauling it between classes does not require a forklift -NO ten pounders! and I need good graphics, this is to be a gaming rig. I may want to wait for atis 9600s and the new pentium M cpus with 2mb of cache... any idea when those will be available? I have to have at least 60gb of storage space, it can't get too hot, it must be fast! lots of requirements I know but I'm willing to spend a lot on this and I think I should get my moneys worth. Good battery life is a must and now for the most important requirement: financing must be available. That limits me to major dealers like dell or hp but I don't have 2500 dollars in my debit account so it's my only option. I'm looking all over, this notebook must be something I can be happy with for the next few years... I'll probably end up waiting for the ati 9600s and the new pentium Ms to arrive but I can only wait a few months school is starting and I need this quickly.
From what I've heard, I think the 9600s will be out in 1-2 months and maybe just a little longer to really be able to get them. Now, when DELL & company gets theirs out I have no idea but I would suspect they (all big guns) are gearing up for it.
I know weight is an issue but I posted another thread on this earlier and they are coming out with 800fsb/dual channel notebooks here in a few weeks/months. That might be worth waiting and seeing how they spec out as well.
Anyway... good luck. -ot

I have heard good things about the D600. Umm... if your using it for college, I believe dell offers educational descount (depends on where you go though).
