No bootup

Hello, I scheduled scan disk to run on startup, but after the Windows splash screen, the screen goes black, with a thin row of coloured pixels along the top, then nothing happens and windows won't boot
Please help

Desktop? Laptop? Try F8 at Power on to see if you can get into Safe Mode.

It is a desktop, and nothing happened when I pressed F8, but subsequently the penny dropped that the F Lock was on, after which I managed to get into Safe Mode, and 'Start Up Repair' has sorted out the problem.
