I recently bought a athlon 2600xp - 333Mhz fsb to replace my Athlon 2000xp, but when I installed it it would only run at the speed of an Athlon 2000xp (1667Mhz).

Please could somebody help me and tell me what I need to do to increase the speed to the normal speed which it is supposed to run at(ive tried o/c a few times but failed, it stopped my monitor turning on when I o/c so I had to reset the cmos jumper which began to get annoying after my 4-5th attempt lol).

my computer specs are as follows -

bios type : American Megatrends

bios date : 03/13/03

super I/O : ITE 8705/SiS 950 rev 2 found at port 2Eh

chipset : SiS 746 rev 2

OS : Microsoft Windows XP Version: 5.1.2600

(please say if this isn't enough detail)

Change the FSB to 166 MHz in BIOS. It should fix the problem. Your AXP is running at 133 MHz FSB

Your motherboard does not offically support 333FSB. It does for memory, but not for the CPU.

You could send the chip back, or try overclocking a little. Maybe 140FSB, perhaps up to 150FSB depending on the chipset and what memory you have, but you probably won't be able to reach the limits of the chip.

If you have enough cash, buy an nforce2 motherboard. Abit NF7-S or Epox 8RDA+ would both be good.
