Ok here's what has happened:

1) I put the processor in with the default heatsink that comes with it. (everything else is hooked up already)

2) Booted up to the expected cmos checksum error since i just replaced the bios battery.

3) Changed the fsb to 133, fixed the date/time in the bios.

4) Booted up fine, but windows showed it as only running 1.47 mhz and that it was a 1900+

To remedy this I go into the bios and change the fsb to 166 and when i attempt to boot up, it wont POST.

I cleared cmos by using the jumper & also by removing the battery. It still wont post.

System specs:

Motherboard: Biostar M7NCD Pro
CPU: AMD Athlon 2500+ (Barton core)
Video: Nvidia geforce2 mx 400
Memory: 256mb Crucial pc2700

Either your CMOS isn't resetting properly, or something blew up when you cranked up the FSB.

Try this:
1)Switch off computer
2)Remove power plug from back of computer
3)remove CMOS battery & replace UPSIDE DOWN
4)move CLR_CMOS Jumper to CLR position
5)wait a couple of minutes
6)move jumper back
7)re-install battery right way up.
8)plug power back in, etc..

Try that, to see if you can get it to at least POST again. if it's still dead, then something must have been damaged.

Do any fans spin, or is it completely dead? Is there a light on the mobo indicating that power is getting through? I only ask because It's possible it's your Power supply that has died.

>FSB should be 166 not 133

Oh if you don't know, than please do shut up. A 1900+ is 1.6 GHz cpu with a 133/266 bus, NOT a 166/333 bus.

If its running @1.47, its running with a 133 FSB and a *11x* (instead of a 12x mulitplier; there is no way to achieve 1.47 on a 100 or 166 bus. The guy is running into trouble with a 12x mulitplier. May need a BIOS update to resolve it.

i also realize the fsb should be 166, which is why i said, i changed it from 133 to 166 and this is when the problem occured.

Yes the systems fans and hds power up, just no post.

I wasnt rude to you, I was rude to the dude that gave you the wrong advice of setting your fsb to 166 when you have a 133 FSB chips. You fell for it apparently, your cpu is a 1.6 GHz chip, designed to run at 12x133 MHz, not 9.63x166.

Anyway, like I said earlier, if your machine reported 1.47 GHz earlier, that means it was running on a 133 fsb with 11x mulitplier instead of a 12x. Check your manual, or the web and see if your motherboard supports a 12x at all, and how to configure it. 12x is sometimes read as 12.5x which would explain your machine not booting.

Oh crap, my apologies.. must have had too much wine, I read 1900+ and somehow completely missed the 37 references to the fact it ought to be a 2500+ :(
My bad.
