Is this a good laptop?

Hello,
I just saw this laptop at a Staples near me, $1000 (and I know someone who works there who can get me 10% off). Here it is. I need a laptop for the remainder of high school (over 1 year) and university (mechanical engineering 4 year program). All I want is decent GPU and CPU power, good battery life ( >3 hours preferably) and some durability to keep it ticking for 4+ years, hopefully. I'm willing to spend up to $1600 on one, screen size doesn't really matter as long as its not puny.
I want to know from you all if this is a good deal or not, I'm not in a rush to buy it so long as it doesn't sell out. My other option is to wait until summertime to buy one but this seems to be a great deal to me so I might buy it now.
The biggest fear I have is that it's an Acer, and from what I've heard, their not great laptops but I could be wrong.

More about : good laptop

The link you posted doesn't work, if you didn't notice; it's by-session.

The machine looks fine and will do good with medium gaming. Your battery life probably won't be greater than 3 hours with an 18" screen, though. If you want more life, you're going to need to get a smaller notebook.
