Hey all. I am looking to build a PC for the first time. I kinda diceided to go with the AMD 64 3200 processor, I did some research onine, but since it's kinda a new thing, i didn't find out enough info, so please give me some suggestions on what kind of other core components should I get. Or, is 64 3200 a good CPU for its price? if not, please show me some alternatives, thanks a lot.

at the moment its a real rip off. its also a PSU whore. an alteritive would be the 3.0c or 3.2 which are the same price. its also easier to find better Mobo, ram and video that works well with this.

Mobo - either ASUS P4C800-E or Abit IC7-Max3
Video - ATI 9600pro or 9800pro
Ram - 3200 minium, 4000 is best in either OCZ, Geil or Corsair

2.4C @ 3.0G
Asus P4C800
Corsair 2x512 3200
Sapphire 9600pro @ 500/700
80G Seagate S-ATA150

Are you stupid, stupid, stupid, or simply a fanboy? Pls explain me WHY exactly the A64 3200+ is a rip off. I am really interested in this.

Anyway, bumbumfj, you've made an excellent choice there. The 3200+ performs the same as the 3.2c for the same price, but unlike a mobo that will accept the 3.2c and will have no upgrade future, your mobo will be able to take newer Athlon 64s CPUs when they are released in the future. My suggestion is if you live in the USA, buy everything from Newegg.com. Here are some suggestions:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+, ADA3200BOX - RETAIL, 1MB L2 Cache, 1600Mhz Bus
Asus Motherboard for AMD Athlon 64 Processors, Model# K8V Deluxe - RETAIL
CORSAIR MEMORY XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series 512MB 64MX64 PC-3200C2PT With Platinum - Silver Heat Spreader OEM
Sapphire Atlantis ATI RADEON 9600 PRO 128MB 8X AGP DVI/TV BULK
Antec 430W Power Supply TRUE430

dont go for a 9600 if you build a system like this. the card is gonna lack power. go for 9800normal or pro.

My own beast: Athlon 2700xp+ , Radeon 9800pro (oc: 410/370) , 512mb ddr400. SO MUCH faster than my father pIII 550......

Thanks for the replies guys... Yeah.. I've never had a AMD based pc before.. so decided to give a try, plus, it's really good for gaming purpose right?
I guess ASUS is always good choice. For the memory, Is plat heat spreader important? becauseI kinda like cosair's 1GB twinx pack with 18 LED on top of them (model# TWINX 1024-3200C2PRO), but i don't think there is a heat spreader version of it, should I not get this one?
Also, I got a x-superalien trubo case for my b-day, comes with a 500W, should I use this one? or should I get a seperate power? One last question (-_- appreciate for reading this far), my case comes with a cpu temp sensor, how do I install it, put it on top of the CPU die? how? I read some about thermal tape... please let me know, thanks a lot :)
