I wanted to clean up the startupprogram (start-run-msconfig) and found under
the Startup-tap 2 programs with a number of small, empty squares and with the
text HCU\software\microsoft\windowsNT\current. Every time I removed them the
startup program jumped to "diagnostic startup" and I went back to the
original state with the 2 "boxed" programs.
Unfortunately, every time I start my computer I get this message on the
desktop "could not load or run (showing the squares) specified in the
registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference
to it in the registry".
Is there anyone out there who knows about this matter and can help me to
solve it?
It's really disturbing and it feels asif I'm no longer the master of the
machine!!!
Hope to hear from you, Joan

Edit the registry string Start \Run regedit go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windowsNT\currentVersion then find the
the key that refedences the program and delete it or go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion then go to the
run folder and see what is in the run folder and if you find anything that
looks like the program delete it. You can also search for the program by name
in the registry by doing a ctrl f keys at the same time. another place is to
look in the program folder under the start folder to see what is in there.
also check to see if you have a trojan or worm on your system. Warning use
this at your own risk doing anything with the registry can cause OS Problems.
