AMD or P4

I want to buy a new PC but I dont know what CPU to get.
I want something that 2Ghz, but I dont understand how the P4 works.

I know if I want to get a 2Ghz AMD I would have to buy a AMD XP 2600. Then I see the P4 with their 2.4 Ghz cpu. Is it really 2.4 or does intel do the same thing as AMD and say 2.4 and it's really.....1.9Ghz?

Plus which one would be better to get. (Gaming)

thank you

  1. This question has been answered over 50 times in this forum. A little research before posting never hurted anyone! And I find it a bit hard to believe that somebody is this ignorant when it comes to processors. Although you know that the Athlon XP 2600+ operates at 2GHz, you are not sure whether the Pentium IV 2.4c works at 2.4GHz? I don't buy that.
  2. dont even bother with a 2600AMD. P4 is the best by far

  3. What else do you need besides Cpu?
  4. AMD is better for a budget pc.
