best cpu for A7V-266E

I haven't been keeping up with hardware lately but recently my cpu fan went out and now I need a new cpu. I was wondering what the best cpu would be for the ASUS A7V-266E without wasting features of new XP chips. I previously had an XP 2000 (it was top of the line AMD back then). Anyhow, thanks in advance for any information.

I have the same MB and with the latest BIOS upgrade of 1011 your board will support a Thoroughbred model 8 XP2600+ (266FSB).
Having said that I cannot recommend the 2600+ cause I just installed one on my board and I am having problems with games and some other programs not running. I think it's a bad CPU but not 100% certain. Maybe the MB or my power supply or something else is not up to it? I would recommend an XP2400+ or XP2200+ since they are cheaper and won't push the limits of your MB.
