I got gateway P 166mhz comp lying around. It missing stuff like a HD, CD rom, floppy, vid card, and monitor. I was think if there is anything usefull to do with that system. Maybe I could get needed componets and sell it all the stuff for $100 to someone? Or I guess that could be still used to word processing and some internet surfing if i get those missing parts back in there. Would be actually worth it to buy those missing parts for it or not? (I guessing if I bought REALLY old stuff it would come up to $50 or $75 total)

A friend of mine has a similar computer set up as a sophisticated router and had Linux installed. It's something like a server for the 3 computers he has.

I don't know where you live, but at least in my city there are non lucrative organizations that pick up old stuff that they reassembled (mixing working components to end with a computer) and give it for free to poor people, other non lucrative organizations without resources, etc. That's enongh for word processing and maybe some excel calculations using old OS.

I you don't find a use for yourself, I think that's the best use you can give it.

Still looking for a good online retailer in Spain :frown:

I would donate them to Goodwill, and take a tax deduction. In Austin Tx, goodwill has a separate center that sells nothing but older computer parts.

hmm i live in quite a small city. I am quite sure there isn't any computer organization that takes old computer stuff. So I can't donate it :( I guess I could use for a print server/router for my computer...

router

Some day I'll be rich and famous for inventing a device that allows you to stab people in the face over the internet.

Orr... you could drill a hole & make the processor a fancy keychain.

If it has the large midtower case, I have a suggestion: Use it as a case. Those accept standard ATX power supplies and are made from far heavier materials than normal cases. Also, you can remove the drive rack and turn it 90% to make a horizontal style case out of it. The "G" symbol is also removable so it can be turned. I switched one to horizontal, painted it black, and used it as my home theater PC case for a while.

its in an old desktop case, not mid tower. So I can't really do anything like that. Seems like a router is the only thing to with his old comp!
