Nvidia card windows black screen with cursor its not the driver

we have an nvidia card, it was failing for a few days, i.e. we d have to reboot it in safe, uninstall and reinstall a driver,a nd it would work. now we can get into the bios but if it comes up in anything other than safe mode its a black screen with a cursor, no sound. monitor is not split to 1 and 2. any suggestions?thanks
